The UniVert Program - Uniprix Group's Commitment to the Environment
The UniVert program is a series of earth-friendly initiatives launched by the Uniprix Group.
Pharmacists affiliated with the Group joined forces to champion the environmental cause and take affirmative action for the good of the planet both in their stores and at the head office.
The Uniprix Group is intent on becoming an environmental leader in Quebec's retail pharmacy sector. That's why it has introduced this ambitious program.
Concrete action, big results!
The Uniprix Group has created many "green" initiatives. Here are just a few examples:

UniVert Logo:To help you make eco-friendly consumer choices, the Uniprix Group has labelled with the UniVert logo products having an environmental focus. Companies that manufacture these products are required to have obtained recognized environmental certification, use chlorine- or phosphate-free manufacturing processes and have made efforts to reduce packaging or improve their product components (biodegradable, recyclable and/or made of recycled or compostable materials). The UniVert logo is easy to find, both in sales locations and in flyers. |
Internal initiatives that pay off
Many environmentally friendly actions are carried out during events hosted by the Uniprix Group. For example, at its two annual Buying Shows for pharmacist-owners, recyclable and compostable materials are recovered and all communication and transactions are done electronically. These initiatives save many tons of paper!
Local initiatives
Pharmacists affiliated with the Uniprix Group have also implemented a range of local initiatives, including, the recovery of expired medications.
For example, pharmacists now give customers their prescriptions in small brown paper bags made from 90% recycled paper rather than in conventional white bags made from only 60% recycled materials.
Many other projects developed this past year will also be launched in the coming months. These will go a long way toward helping the Uniprix Group reach its ambitious environmental goals.
